Library Helpers
SJGS volunteers are available at the Stockton Central Library in on the first and last Tuesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We provide genealogical training and assistance to our members and local residents who are researching their roots in California, the United States, and worldwide.
NOTE: Library Helpers is temporarily suspended due to the extended closure of the Central Library for refurbishment. We are working with the Library staff to restart the Library Helpers at one of the branch libraries during the refurbishment period. We will announce the new location as soon as a temporary location has been secured.
Research Requests
San Joaquin Genealogical Society volunteers will conduct limited San Joaquin County research for $15 per hour. Please be as specific as possible as to what information you are looking for (e.g., birth or marriage date of specific ancestor) and provide our volunteers with a list of any records or information you have already accessed to avoid any duplication of effort. Our volunteers will review your request, and if they are able to assist you, you will be directed back to our SJGS Store to make payment before research is started.
Obituary Look Up
The San Joaquin Genealogical Society charges $5 to locate an obituary within San Joaquin County. Please be as specific as possible regarding the obituary you hope to find. Include the full name of the deceased, if known, and the exact date or approximate year of death and any other information that might assist the researcher. Our volunteers will review your request and if they are able to assist you, you will be directed back to the SJGS Store to make payment before research is started.
